Men's Basketball Falls to Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, OH - Jason Trout and Eric Sheck each scored 18 points to lead host Muskingum past Frostburg State, 73-65, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats (1-2) fell behind early, 19-9, before going on a 17-2 run to move ahead, 26-21. FSU capped the spurt with nine straight points before the Fighting Muskies countered with a 6-0 run of their own to regain the lead, 27-26.

Frostburg State answered with 10 straight points to take its biggest lead of the day, 36-27.

Seniors Pierre Bowery (Kensington, Md./Einstein) and A.J. Ernst (Minster, Ohio/Minster) each had four points in the outburst as the Bobcats took a 40-34 advantage at the break.

However, the Bobcats, who hit a scorching 60 percent (15-of-25) from the field in the opening half, couldn't keep their shooting touch going in the second stanza, sinking just 9-of-29 (31 percent) after intermission.

That opened the door for Muskingum (2-1), which opened the half with a 15-5 run to take a 49-45 lead.

After trading baskets, the teams combined to miss 12 consecutive shots before a Bowery jumper pulled FSU to within two, 53-51. Bobcat freshman T.J. Dorsey (Round Hill, Va./Loudoun Valley) drained a three-pointer at the 8:07 mark to move FSU ahead again, 54-53, but Matt Dansby answered for Muskingum with a shot from behind the arc and the hosts never trailed again.

The Bobcats closed to within 61-60 with 4:17 to play, but FSU missed six of its next seven attempts from the floor and the Fighting Muskies sealed the win by hitting 8-of-9 free throws in the closing minutes.

Bowery led FSU with 17 points before fouling out. Sophomore Kamillo Rosenthal (Munich, Germany/Catholic (Va.)) added 13 points, Ernst had 11 points and junior Ryan Grabill (Boonsboro, Md./Williamsport) finished with 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.

The Bobcats return to action at Shenandoah on Thursday at 7:30 pm.
