Men's Basketball Falls to Penn State Behrend, 66-55

ERIE, PA — Justin Jennings had a game-high 21 points to lead the Penn State Behrend men’s basketball team to a 66-55 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Frostburg State Friday night at the Junker Center.

FSU fell to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the AMCC, while PSB improved to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the league.

The Lions took an early 2-0 lead one minute into play. Four minutes later, a three pointer and a layup by sophomore Keith Hazel (Weirton, W.Va./Weir) gave the Bobcats the 7-6 advantage.

With 1:51 left in the first half, sophomore Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) netted a bucket from behind the arc to extent Frostburg State’s lead 27-17.

Penn State Behrend would come back and score five straight points to come within 29-24 at intermission.

In the second half, FSU would have its last lead of the game off a three-pointer from Owen at 17:19. The Lions opened a 18-4 scoring run to lead 49-37 with 9:09 left in the game to pull away for good. The Bobcats came as close as 55-49 off a layup by senior Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Wilson) with 6:06 on the game clock.

PSB shot 52.2% (12-of-23), while holding the Bobcats to 31.0% (9-of-29).

McIntyre, the only FSU player to score in double digits, recorded his fourth double-double this season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Daniel Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall) led the team with six assists and sophomore Dale DeBerry (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) added two steals.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, January 28 when they travel to Pitt-Bradford for an AMCC contest beginning at 6:00 pm.
