Men's Basketball Gets By Mount Aloysius

FROSTBURG, MD — Senior Pierre Bowery (Kensington, Md./Einstein) scored 18 points to lead Frostburg State to an 82-75 win over Mount Aloysius Thursday night at Bobcat Arena.

With his outing, Bowery tied Donnie Woodward for second place on the FSU all-time scoring list with 1,719 points. Bowery will likely take overtake Woodward on Saturday when the Bobcats host Pitt-Bradford at 4:00 p.m.

Eddie Rutledge owns the school career scoring mark with 2,115 points.

Bowery, who also grabbed eight rebounds, scored 10 points in the second half and tied Woodward with two free throws with 1:08 remaining in the game.

The Bobcats (8-14) came out of the gates firing, opening a 19-6 lead at the 14:22 mark. The Mounties (5-17), who lost for the seventh time in their last eight games, closed to within 30-25 with 7:48 left in the first half, but freshman T.J. Dorsey (Round Hill, Va./Loudoun Valley) sank a jumper and a three-pointer to spark an 18-4 Bobcat run.

Sophomore Chris Vaughn (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) capped the spurt by sandwiching two three-pointers around a Bowery jumper as FSU opened a 48-29 advantage.

The Bobcats held a 50-34 lead at the break.

Frostburg State continued its double-digit lead through the opening 10 minutes of the second half, with Vaughn drilling another trey to make it a 68-52 contest with 8:04 to play.

Mount Aloysius made a late charge, closing to within six, 75-69, with 2:16 remaining, but the Bobcats sank 7-of-8 shots from the free-throw line in the final minutes to seal their second straight win.

Dorsey scored in double-digits for the fifth time in his last six games, finishing with 17 points. Senior A.J. Ernst (Minster, Ohio/Minster) and Vaughn added 12 points each, while senior Robert Jones, Jr. (Ft. Washington, Md./Friendly) posted seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Keith Denkins led Mount Aloysius with a game-high 32 points and nine rebounds, while Brian Lewis (18) and William Ferguson (12) also scored in double figures.
