FROSTBURG, MD — Six players scored in double figures to lead Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference-leading Lake Erie to an 85-69 win over Frostburg State in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

The Storm (15-5, 11-2AMCC) used an early surge to take a 13-3 advantage five minutes into action off a layup from freshman Darnell Campbell. The Bobcats (9-12, 6-8 AMCC) scored three-straight points, including back-to-back free throws from senior Dan Ryley (Frederick, Md./St. John's Prospect Hall), to close the gap to 13-7.

Lake Erie then went on a 10-4 run to take its biggest lead of the half, 23-11, at the 10-minute mark. Senior Brandon Howell (Silver, Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) ended the half with a late basket for FSU to come within 39-32.

In the second half, the Bobcats came out with an 11-7 run, ending with a three-pointer by sophomore Brian Owen (Gainesville, Va./Brentsville) at 16:22 to cut the deficit to three.

LEC netted 13 points in a row to extend the lead to 59-43. FSU would come as close as eight points when senior Marcus McIntyre (Washington, D.C./Wilson) netted a shot with 4:46 left to play, but the Storm powered ahead on to seal the victory.

Sophomore Dale DeBerry, Jr. (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) paced the Bobcats with a game-high 19 points. McIntyre had 14 points and eight rebounds. Owen had 12 scores and five assists, while classmate Keith Hazel (Weirton, W. Va./Weir) added 11 points. On the defensive side, Ryley grabbed eight boards, which puts his career total at 503.

Lake Erie was led by Robert Williams with 18 points. Jack Lutzeier and Reggie Richardson scored 13 points apiece, while Campbell had 12. Terry Bailey had 10 points, while Jacjen Harris also had 10 scores and added 11 rebounds.

The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, February 7 when they travel to Mt. Aloysius for an AMCC contest beginning at 8:00 pm.
