Men's Basketball to Face Christopher Newport at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State University men’s basketball team will face Christopher Newport University at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. on Sunday, December 22 at 2:00 p.m.

The Captains (4-2), who were ranked No. 22 in the nation two weeks ago, own a 2-1 all-time record versus the Bobcats. CNU held off FSU, 80-71, last year in Newport News, Va.

CNU posted a 23-5 record a year ago and has averaged 24 wins in the last five years. The Captains have made 14 appearances in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite Eight two years ago.

Frostburg State (1-4) has enjoyed great success over the last two seasons, posting a combined 36-22 record and advancing to two straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship games.

The Bobcats won the title and advanced to the ECAC Tournament in 2001 before falling in the AMCC final in overtime last year.

"We have a lot of players and alumni from the Baltimore-Washington area, and this gives us a chance to play there before the holidays in a beautiful facility," said Bobcat head coach Webb Hatch.

Admission to the game is $8 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and $4 for Frostburg State and Christopher Newport students with a valid ID.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster at or (202) 432-SEAT and can also be purchased at the arena on gameday.

There will also be a reception for Frostburg State alumni during halftime.
