Men's Basketball to Host Muskingum Saturday; Women to Face Southwestern (Tex.) in Gallaudet Tourney

FROSTBURG, MD - Both the Frostburg State men's and women's basketball teams will return to action Saturday. The Bobcat men will host Muskingum at Bobcat Arena at 2 pm, while the women will face Southwestern (Tex.) in the second game of the Gallaudet Tournament at 8.

GAME NOTES: Frostburg State returns home looking to rebound from a 92-65 road loss to Division II powerhouse Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday.

The Bobcats played tough throughout the first half, building a 12-5 lead and trailing 38-29 at halftime. FSU then pulled to within 60-49 with 10:20 left before the Indians used a 14-6 run to take command.

Senior Myro Small leads FSU with 14.0 points per game, while freshman Brian Owen, who had a career-high 16 points against IUP, is second at 9.3 ppg.

Junior transfers David Quay (8.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg) and Jocara Knight (8.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg) have been solid so far this season.

Muskingum posted a 47-37 win over Ohio Northern Tuesday night behind sophomore Zach Ross' 10 points. The Fighting Muskies hit just 18-of-50 (36 percent) from the floor but held ONU to 16-of-55 (29.1) shooting.

Ross leads the team with 12.7 ppg, followed by junior Roy Skidmore (9.7) and sophomore Cole Pittis (9.0). Junior Matt Dansby is averaging 7.7 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game.

SERIES: First-ever meeting


GAME NOTES: The Bobcats and Pirates meet for the first time in the second game of the Gallaudet Tournament.

FSU posted an 88-61 win over Mary Washington Tuesday, powered by junior forward Tracey Little's 22 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. Sophomore guard Melanie Herget added a career-high 20 points, while sophomore forward Kelly True scored a career-best 19 points and tied her career high with 10 rebounds.

Little leads the Bobcats with 16.7 points and 14.3 rebounds per game, while Herget is averaging 13.3 ppg. Junior transfer Jamie Cable has been outstanding as well, posting 12.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per outing. True is adding 9.3 points and 7.7 rebounds.

The Bobcats are shooting 43.7 percent (73-167) from the floor through three games.

After dropping its season-opener to Marietta (63-55), Southwestern has won its last two, edging Menlo (66-65 in overtime) and Univ. of Texas-Dallas (68-49).

Sophomore guard Kristen Johnson, who scored 24 points in the win over Menlo, leads the Pirates with 15.7 ppg.

Junior guard Erin Nelson (7.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg), junior forward Kari Crandall (7.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg) and junior guard Erika Dunkman (7.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.1 apg) provide the rest of the scoring punch.
