Men's Basketball to Open AMCC Tournament on Road Against Lake Erie

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State men's basketball team will travel to Painesville, Ohio to take on Lake Erie in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament first-round game Wednesday at 7:00 pm.

The Bobcats (10-15, 5-7 AMCC) secured the No. 5 seed with their 81-79 upset of No. 2 La Roche Saturday and enter the tournament having won four of their last five games.

FSU finished tied with Pitt-Greensburg with identical 5-7 league records and the teams split their two regular-season meetings. However, FSU earned the higher seed thanks to a 1-1 record versus regular-season champion Penn State Behrend. UPG dropped both its games against Behrend.

Lake Erie (11-13, 6-6) has continued to improve all year long and capped its regular season with a 73-67 win over defending AMCC champion Pitt-Bradford last Wednesday.

The Storm trailed, 25-4, at one point before taking their first lead of the night with just 57 seconds left.

Lake Erie swept the two regular-season meetings with Frostburg State. The Storm picked up an 88-82 home win January 11 and added a thrilling 71-69 victory in Frostburg February 1 as Brandon Henderson sank the game-winning jumper with 3.6 seconds left.

Penn State Behrend (18-7, 10-2) ended Pitt-Bradford's two-year reign as regular-season champions and earned the first-round bye. The Lions will host the semifinals and final on Friday and Saturday.

In Wednesday's other first-round contests, No. 2 La Roche (14-11, 8-4) will host No. 7 Penn State Altoona (1-24, 0-12) and No. 3 Pitt-Bradford (19-6, 8-4) will host No. 6 Pitt-Greensburg (14-11, 5-7). Both games will begin at 7:00 pm.
