Men's Soccer Blanks Catholic

FROSTBURG, MD — Sophomore Jeff Bisker (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Frostburg State to a 5-0 win over visiting Catholic in men’s soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) put the Bobcats on the board first when he found the net off an assist from senior Jamie Romano (Joppatowne, Md./John Carroll) in the 12th minute.

Bisker then tallied the next two goals less than eight minutes apart to give FSU a 3-0 lead. His first came when he blasted a rebound of a shot by junior Kodjo Gnatiko (Montgomery Village, Md./Montgomery Blair) past Catholic goalie Evan Phillips in the 34th minute.

Bisker added his second score in the 42nd minute off a short cross from freshman Eric Whisman (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie).

Frostburg State (3-2-1) kept the pressure on in the second half.

Sophomore Sean Quealy (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) gave the Bobcats a 4-0 advantage in the 54th minute when his blast from 35 yards banked in off the left post.

Gnatiko capped the scoring in the 76th minute off an assist from Bisker.

Junior Bryn Varhol (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O’Connell) and senior Brandon Rethemeyer (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) combined for FSU’s second straight shutout. Varhol stopped one shot in the first half, while Rethemeyer was not forced to make a save in the second.

Varhol held Wilkes scoreless in a 0-0 double-overtime tie Sunday.

“I’m very happy that we posted back-to-back shutouts,” said Bobcat Head Coach Keith Byrnes. “We played a lot of players again today, which will help give us experience come playoff time. I’m pleased with how this young team is developing.”

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday when it hosts Mary Washington at 2:00 pm.
