Men's Soccer Blanks Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, PA — Junior midfielder Jon Roth (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) scored 24 minutes into the first half for the game’s only goal as Frostburg State posted a 1-0 shutout of Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon at Cameron Stadium.

The Bobcats (3-3-1) got on the board when senior Nate Depasquale (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) put the ball in play on a throw-in.

The ball was knocked around in traffic, with sophomore Kodjo Gnatiko (Montgomery Village, Md./Montgomery Blair) the last to touch it before Roth sent it past W&J junior goalie Mike Garet.

Washington & Jefferson (4-6-1) had a few chances late in the second half; however, freshman goalkeeper Tom Sadler (Silver Spring, Md./Sandy Spring Friends) held W&J off the board for his first career shutout.

Sadler finished with one save, while Garet had seven stops for the Presidents.

Frostburg State, 3-0-1 in its last four games after a tough 0-3 start, returns to action Tuesday when it visits Division II California University of Pennsylvania at 4:00 pm.
