Men's Soccer Downs Pitt-Greensburg in AMCC Opener

Frostburg, Md. ... Senior Brad Limbacher (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) scored two goals and added an assist to lead Frostburg State to a 6-1 victory over Pitt-Greensburg in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener for both squads Friday afternoon.

Frostburg State (2-2, 1-0 AMCC) opened an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Sean Simpson (Silver Spring, Md./Kennedy) scored just 2:13 into the game. Senior Gary Lesko (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) sent a crossing pass through the middle of the box, and freshman Mike Jungerheld (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) headed it to Simpson, who sent the ball into the right side of the net.

Jungerheld then took a long diagonal lead pass from Limbacher and beat UPG goalie Mitch Paterline a little over 10 minutes later to give Frostburg State a 2-0 halftime lead.

Just as they did to start the game, the host Bobcats scored early in the second half, as Limbacher sent a blast from 25 yards out into the upper right corner of the net just 2:27 into the stanza.

Limbacher then gave Frostburg State a 4-0 lead 3:30 later with his second goal of the game. Simpson sent a cross from the right corner which junior R.J. Purnell (Crisfield, Md./Crisfield) tipped along to a wide open Limbacher, who tapped it into the left side of the net.

Purnell put FSU up, 5-0, heading in a feed from junior Jay Levesque (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell) in the game's 72nd minute.

Pitt-Greensburg (1-3, 0-1) broke up the shutout when junior Bill McIntosh collected a turnover and sent in a shot with 10:58 left.

FSU capped the scoring with 6:30 to play when sophomore Steve Brett (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) connected after a nice give-and-go with sophomore James Denison (Fort Walsh, Md./Canterbury).

Junior Mike Pregnall (Herndon, Va./Oakton) made two saves in the win, while Paterline allowed five goals while making one save.

Frostburg State outshot Pitt-Greensburg, 19-7.

FSU returns to action on Sunday when it hosts 20th-ranked Mary Washington at 3:00 p.m.
