Men's Soccer Drops Double Overtime Battle to Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The Frostburg State Bobcats lost 2-1 in double overtime to host Virginia Wesleyan Saturday night as part of the Blue Marlin Classic Tournament.

Josh Pearson scored for the Blue Marlins with 45 seconds left in the first half, and sophomore Danny Simpson (Northern/Dunkirk, Md.) flipped the ball in off a corner kick by freshman Dave Stinson (Urbana/Ijamsville, Md.) in the second half, forcing the overtime.

Chris Mills scored the decisive goal for Virginia Wesleyan in the 115th minute.

Virginia Wesleyan (3-1) took 28 shots and Bobcat freshman keeper Tom Sadler (Sandy Spring Friends/Silver Spring, Md.) made nine saves on the night.

Simpson and senior Mike Mutchler(Leonardtown/Leonardtown, Md) were named to the Blue Marlin Classic All-Tournament team.

"We played a good second half," said head coach Keith Byrnes. We played hard, and we didn't lose due to a lack of effort on our part."

The Bobcats (0-2) return to action Wednesday, September 10th when they face host Gettysburg at 4:00 pm.
