Men's Soccer Edges Columbia Union in OT to Give Byrnes First Victory

FROSTBURG, MD - Senior R.J. Purnell (Crisfield/Crisfield, Md.) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner three minutes into overtime, to lift Frostburg State to a 3-2 win over host Columbia Union Saturday night in Takoma Park.

The win marked the first victory for head coach Keith Byrnes at Frostburg State.

The Bobcats (1-3-2), who played their fifth overtime contest in six games this year, opened the scoring on a goal by senior Jon Wieland (Hylton/Woodbridge, Va.), but Columbia Union found the net twice to move ahead, 2-1.

Purnell then pulled the Bobcats even with seven minutes left in regulation before netting the game-winner.

Frostburg State opens defense of its AMCC title on Tuesday when it visits Penn State Altoona for a 7:00 pm match.
