Men's Soccer Loses to Franklin & Marshall

The Frostburg State men’s soccer lost to regionally-ranked Franklin & Marshall 4-2 Wednesday evening at Bobcat Stadium.

FSU falls to 2-5 while F&M improves to 5-1.

Franklin & Marshall came into the match ranked seventh in the Mid-Atlantic region, boasting big wins over McDaniel, 4-0 and Lebanon Valley, 5-1.

The Bobcats came out flat and the Diplomats scored three minutes into the match. Senior Steve Loscalzo was credited with the goal, coming off a corner kick by junior Brandon Corday.

FSU rallied and evened the game at the 12:50 minute mark when sophomore Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Thomas Wootton) caught the Franklin & Marshall defense off-guard. Gracia threw the ball into senior Jeff Bisker (Fallston, Md./Fallston) who was all alone in the goalbox. Bisker brought the ball down with his chest and then placed it into the far corner of the net, beating keeper Ed Stelz.

Frostburg State found themselves down another goal when freshman Matt Melino scored on a diving header from Corday, just two minutes before halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Bobcats were determined to get back into the game. They wouldn’t have to wait long, because at the 49:30 minute mark, junior Sean Tana (Baldwin, Md./Loyola Blakefield) headed in a corner kick from teammate Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point).

Franklin & Marshall would tally their third goal of the night when Corday chipped the ball over Derek Richardson (New Windsor, Md./Linganore) at the 65:40 minute mark.

Frostburg State would continue to pressure Franklin & Marshall, having several chances to even the game once again.

F&M would put the game out of reach when junior Matt McCall scored an unassisted goal in the 86th minute.

The Diplomats outshot the Bobcats 13-5. Richardson was credited with six saves, while Stelz made two.

Frostburg State returns to action on September 23, when the travel to Lake Erie for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup. The game is set for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
