Men's Soccer Routs Lake Erie

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State used the momentum behind five first half goals to rout visiting Lake Erie, 7-1, to improve its unbeaten streak to six and lift its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference record to 2-0.

The Red and Black were first to find the net when sophomore Matt Moffa (Eastern Tech/Baltimore, Md.) found the net in the 22nd minute off an assist across the box from senior Nate Depasquale (N. Stafford/Stafford, Va.).

FSU's next tally came when sophomore Danny Simpson (Northern/Dunkirk, Md.) found the net less than a minute later at the 23:22 mark.

With two goals under their belt and a more relaxed style of play as a result, the Bobcats were able to find the net three times in 14 minutes.

Junior Jon Roth (Magruder/Gaithersburg, Md.) blasted a shot into the goal off an assist from sophomore Kodjo Gnatiko (Montgomery Blair/Montgomery Village, Md.) in the 31st minute, notching up the score, 3-0.

In the 41st minute, freshman Jeff Bisker (Fallston/Fallston, Md.) scored the first of his two collegiate goals. Bisker's first tally came off an assist across the middle from Gnatiko, his second, twenty seconds later, a straight-shot in assisted by freshman Jason Cromwell (Perry Hall/Baltimore, Md.).

In the second half, the Bobcats took the field confidently and were ready to keep their ample lead. Senior Rob Burns (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, Md.) found the back of the net in the 59th minute off an assist from freshman Stephen Zoutman (Goshen/Chester, N.Y.).

Just over two minutes later, senior Mike Mutchler (Leonardtown/Leonardtown, Md.) tallied a goal off an assist from Simpson.

"Once we settled in we were able to keep up the level," said head coach Keith Byrnes. "Erie is improved from last season and we got off to a slow start. We're always pleased to get a conference win and improve our record at home. We have a couple of more AMCC matches and I think this win will help our confidence going into those games."

The Storm (3-8-0, 0-2 AMCC) managed to get on the board in the 63rd minute when Justin Daly found the net.

The Bobcats (4-3-2, 2-0 AMCC) return to action Wednesday, October 15th, when they visit AMCC opponent LaRoche at 4:00 pm.
