Mens Soccer Tears Through Point Park 7-0

FROSTBURG, MD - Frostburg State University had a convincing 7-0 win over Point Park College today, bringing its record to 3-5-2 for the season.

The first to draw blood was senior R.J. Purnell (Crisfield/Crisfield, Md), scoring across the middle off an assist from senior Jon Wieland (Hylton/Woodbridge, Va) at 28:49 in the first half.

Seven minutes later,junior Steve Brett (Fort Hill/Cumberland, Md.) took a shot and it bounced right back at him. He reacted quickly and headed it in for a goal. Brett played an aggressive game, totaling eight shots.

Now up 2-0, the Bobcats were fired up and poised for victory. Although the Bobcats did not score again in the first half, they outshot the Pioneers,22-3.

In the second half, FSU's domination continued, as the Pioneers couldn't seem to get in scoring position. At the 24 minute mark, freshman Matt Moffa (Eastern Tech/Baltimore, Md.) found the corner of the net off an assist from Wieland. That was Moffa's third goal in three games.

At 17:39, now up 3-0, aggressive sophomore Jon Roth (Magruder/Gaithersburg, Md.) came alive and drove the ball in off an assist from Wieland. Three minutes later, Roth scored again, this time off an assist from junior Sean Simpson (Kennedy/Silver Spring, Md.).

Feeling the victory draw near, Simpson went on a tear and scored a pair of goals. His first came off an assist from sophomore Mike DiIorio (John Carroll/Perry Hall, Md.) at the seven-minute mark. Two minutes later, Simpson drove the ball through the middle for the final goal as the Bobcats seized the win 7-0.

FSU took 21 shots in the second half, whilePoint Park had just four. The Bobcats return to action October 5th at Mary Washington at 2:00 p.m.
