Men's Soccer Travels to Penn State Altoona for AMCC Semifinal Match

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State men's soccer team travels to play No. 2 Penn State Altoona in the semifinals of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament. The game will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 2:00 pm.

The sixth seeded Bobcats enter the game with a 7-10-1 overall record and a 4-4-1 AMCC mark while Penn State Altoona boasts a 13-2-2 overall record with a 8-1 league slate.

FSU earned a spot in the semifinal contest, by upsetting No. 3 seeded Lake Erie on Saturday 2-0. Over the last two games, the Bobcats have outscored their opponents 8-0.

PSA enters the contest after earning a bye in the first round, with their only conference loss coming to reigning conference champion and top seeded Medaille, 1-0.

Earlier in the month, Frostburg State and Penn State Altoona squared off, with PSA getting the better of FSU. After 90 minutes, the game was tied at 1-1, forcing overtime, in which the Lions would score, 9:40 into the first overtime period.

Sophomore Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) leads the Bobcats with 11 goals and two assists for a total of 24 points. He is followed by junior Alex Wilkinson (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh) and sophomore Gregg Laskow (Plainsboro, N.J./WWP-North) who each have four goals.

In net, sophomore Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) has started the last four games for FSU, going 3-1with three shutouts.

Bryan Pierzga leads PSA with 17 goals and 11 assists for a total of 45 points, which is good enough for second in the AMCC conference. Pierzga is the conference leader in game-winning goals, with six. Also having stellar seasons for Altoona are Corey Suter with 11 goals and three assists, and Josh Guthridge who has six goals and seven assists.

The Lions have rotated three goalkeepers all season, with Mike Ginnona making seven starts, Jon Martin with six and Jim Rosato with four.

In the other semifinal match, No. 4 Penn State Behrend is set to take on No.1 Medaille, after PSB downed Pitt-Bradford 3-0 in the first round.

The AMCC championship match will be held at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, Novemeber 4, with the victor receiving an automatic bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.
