Men's Soccer Wins Decisive 6-0 Contest Over La Roche

FROSTBURG, Md. – In a win or go home scenario, the Frostburg State men’s soccer team came through with a 6-0 victory over La Roche, Wednesday evening at Bobcat Stadium. With the win, FSU clinched the sixth and final seed in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament.

The Bobcats (6-10-1, 3-3-1 AMCC) now await the winner of the Penn State Behrend/Penn State Altoona game tomorrow evening to determine where they play.

If Penn State Behrend wins or ties, FSU will travel to PSB for the opening round of the tournament on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm. If PSB loses tomorrow evening, Frostburg State will travel to Lake Erie on Saturday for the first round.

Six different players scored for the Bobcats while senior Sean Quealy (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) and junior Kenny Dotter (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) each netted a goal and an assist.

Quealy opened the scoring just a 1:19 into action with his first goal of the fall season. At 17:11, FSU made the score 2-0 when Quealy assisted a goal by sophomore Gregg Laskow (Plainsboro, N.J./WWP-North).

Dotter later ended the first-period scoring with his team-leading 11th goal of the year. Frostburg State held a slim 9-8 lead in shots in the opening stanza.

FSU added to its lead 22 minutes into the second half when freshman Travis Palmer (Centerville, Md./Queen Annes County) took a pass from Dotter and slipped a left-footed shot past the La Roche (8-10, 4-5) goalkeeper.

Junior Trevor Havey (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) scored the Bobcats’ fifth goal of the evening. Sophomore Adam Gracia (Rockville, Md./Thomas Wootton) took a corner kick from Dotter and fed the ball to Havey on the left side of the goal box. Havey then hit a hard left-footed shot into the back of the net.

The hosts scored their sixth and final goal of the evening when freshman Bryan Bowring (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg) scored his first collegiate goal.

FSU outshot the Redhawks in the second half 12-8 and held the final game advantage, 21-16. However, La Roche had the edge in corner kicks, 10-5.

Sophomore Jay Herford (Crofton, Md./South River) went the distance for the Bobcats in net, making nine saves. LAR goalie, Evan Russell, suffered the loss after allowing six goals.

During the regular season, Frostburg State defeated Lake Erie 1-0 in overtime while losing to Penn State Behrend 2-0.
