Men's Swimming & Diving Caps Season With Impressive Showing at Grove City Invitational

GROVE CITY, PA — The Frostburg State men’s swimming and diving team capped its season with an impressive showing at the Grove City Invitational last weekend.

The Bobcats scored 442 points to place fourth out of nine teams. Combined with the women's 273 points, FSU placed fourth in the overall standings with 715 points.

"I was very proud of all of our swimmers and divers this weekend," said Bobcat first-year head coach Troy Strieby. "It was an impressive display of team effort to place fourth overall."

Senior Ben Marrapodi (C. Milton Wright/Forest Hill, Md.) turned in a stellar performance, finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.90), third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.85) and seventh in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.09).

He also teamed with freshman Ross Herman (Winston Churchill/N. Potomac, Md.), sophomore Chris Williams (Baltimore City College/Baltimore, Md.) and senior Brian Flynn (Shepaug Valley/Bridgewater, Conn.) to finish fourth in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:47.72, and he later joined Herman, senior Jeff Cameron (Mt. St. Joseph/Baltimore, Md.) and Chris Williams to place fourth in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:43.44.

Chris Williams was also strong, posting second-place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle (personal-record 22.11) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.15). He also finished eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (57.38).

Flynn added a pair of top-10 showings, finishing fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (personal-record 22.31) and seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (49.69). He was also 15th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.78).

Herman placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (57.59) and ninth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.15), while sophomore Sean Leaman (Bethesda-Chevy Chase/Bethesda, Md.) was fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:36.30) and sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:52.68).

Cameron added 11th-place finishes in both the 100-yard butterfly (59.23) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:29.08) and was 13th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.49), and senior Ryan Kentrus (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.) was 16th in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.96) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.02) and 20th in the 100-yard freestyle (52.87).

Sophomore C.C. Williams (Fort Mill/Fort Mill, S.C.) placed eighth in 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.33), 13th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.08) and 14th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.24).

Senior Greg Barnhart (Damascus/Gaithersburg, Md.) was ninth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:13.26), 13th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:57.86) and set a personal record in the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.32), while freshman Will Cross (Walkersville/Walkersville, Md.) was 14th in the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:08.99) and set a personal record in the 500-yard freestyle (5:45.20).

Sophomore J.D. Ottey (Thomas Johnson/Frederick, Md.) placed 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.88) and 17th in the 200-yard individual medley (personal-record 2:29.91).

Sophomore Steven Ramsey (Magruder/Olney, Md.) placed fourth in both the one-meter (208.50) and three-meter (200.10 points) dives, while freshman Kyle Meyer (Centreville/Clifton, Va.) was fifth in the one-meter (205.05).
