Men's Tennis Defeated by Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — The Frostburg State men’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 match to host Juniata Tuesday afternoon.

The Bobcats lost their fifth consecutive contest to fall to 1-6 on the season, while the Eagles won their fourth straight to improve to 4-1 on the year.

Senior Gary Lyst (Silver Spring, Md./Blair) and freshman Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata) began the day with an 8-4 win over Brandon Long and Dave Bullock at No. 1 doubles and improved to 6-1 on the season.

However, Juniata rebounded with 8-1 and 8-3 wins at the other two doubles flights.

Lyst improved to 5-2 in singles play this year by sweeping Long, 6-1, 6-2, at the top singles flight, and Chisholm then rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Brian Sykes at the second spot.

Juniata picked up straight-set wins at the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 spots, and Tom Nelson outlasted Bobcat sophomore Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River), 2-6, 7-6, 7-6 in a marathon at No. 5.

FSU will look to return to the win column Thursday when it hosts Pitt-Greensburg in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match starting at 3 pm.
