Men's Tennis Returns to Winning Ways with Shutout of Pitt-Greensburg

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State men’s tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 9-0 shutout of Pitt-Greensburg in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action Thursday afternoon.

The Bobcats opened a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles flights.

Senior Terence Killen (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) and sophomore Justin Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) teamed for an 8-1 win over Chris and Brian Gesinski at the top flight, and seniors Dave Butler (Grantsville, Md./Northern Garrett) and Sean Shillinger (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) posted an 8-3 victory against Jon Germock and Jason Pishney at the second spot.

Junior Scott Ruest (Waldorf, Md./McDonough) and freshman Andrew Spangenberg (Frederick, Md./Frederick) closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-1 defeat of Kris Richardson and Tom Janicki at the third flight.

The Bobcats (3-2, 2-1 AMCC) had little trouble in sweeping all six singles contests.

Stephens began with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Chris Gesinski at the top flight, and Killen followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Pishney at the second spot.

Ruest then turned in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Brian Gesinski at the third position, while Butler blanked Janicki, 6-0, 6-0, at the fourth flight.

Shillinger got past Germock, 6-0, 6-2, at the fifth spot, and junior Matt Dickey (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) closed out the win with a 6-3, 7-5 defeat of Richardson at the sixth flight.

Frostburg State will return to action on Saturday in the Penn State Behrend Invitational beginning at 9:00 a.m.
