No. 14 Juniata Downs Field Hockey, 4-1

FROSTBURG, Md. – Kim Wagner scored two goals and added an assist to lead No. 14 ranked Juniata to a 4-1 win over Frostburg State, Tuesday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats are now 4-10 on the year while the Eagles have won their third-straight game to improve to 12-1.

Junior Michelle Frost (Jessup, Md./Hammond) gave FSU the early 1-0 lead 9:12 into the contest. Freshman Kelly Filipowitz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) fed the ball to Frost off a penalty corner who slipped it past the keeper.

Just over four minutes later, Heather Hassinger evened the game with a goal off a penalty corner taken by Erin Smith. Leslie Brown gave the visitor’s the lead for good with a goal at 31:47 off a feed from Wagner.

Wagner, who entered the game leading NCAA Division III with 4.67 points per game, sealed the contest for the Eagles scoring back-to-back goals in the 38th and 69th minutes. Sarah Bender and Meredith Low were credited with the assists, respectively.

As a unit, Juniata entered the game ranked third in the country with a 0.57 goals against average and 10th in the country, scoring 4.01 points per game.

Junior Amanda Runion (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) took the loss for the Bobcats making two saves while Abby Funk earned the win for the Eagles stopping one shot.

Frostburg State returns to the field on Tuesday, October 17 when it hosts Notre Dame at 4:30 pm.
