ABILENE, TX — Frostburg State junior defensive lineman George O'Brien II (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) has been named to the 2001 Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division III All-South Region Team as voted on by a panel of sports information directors from the region.

O'Brien, the Atlantic Central Football Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-ACFC selection, was selected to the South Region third team.

He led the ACFC with 18 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks and finished second on the Bobcats with 84 tackles.

O'Brien was named the ACFC Defensive Player of the Week twice during the season and took home ECAC Division III Southwest Region Defensive Player of the Week honors once.

He helped FSU lead the league with 26 sacks, nearly twice as many as Salisbury, which ranked second with 15.

Frostburg State finished 5-4 overall and placed second in the ACFC with a 2-1 league mark. The Bobcats won their final three games of the season, including a 30-27 overtime finale over state rival Salisbury in the Third Annual Regents' Cup at RFK Stadium in Washington.

A total of 75 players were chosen for the Football Gazette All-South Region team from a pool of 152 nominations. It is selected by sports information directors from the 63 schools that sponsor football in the South Region.
