Petrick Named to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Third Team

WALTHAM, Mass. — Frostburg State senior Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) has been named to the third team of the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Women’s Volleyball Team. Selections are made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Petrick is the first FSU volleyball player to earn Academic All-America honors. She is also the second honoree in school history joining women’s soccer senior Karen Kotofski who received first-team honors two weeks ago.

Petrick, who holds a 3.81 grade point average as an accounting major, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II first team for the second straight year last month. In her sophomore season, she was selected to the Verizon Academic All-District third team.

“This is a wonderful honor for a student-athlete who has worked as hard in the classroom as she has on the court,” said Head Coach Jeff Billington. “The coaching staff is very proud of Lauren and what she has accomplished over her four years at Frostburg State.”

Petrick capped her career in style this past season. She was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year for the third straight season and was also named to the All-AMCC first team for the fourth year in a row.

She finished the 2004 season ranked fourth in the conference with 3.87 kills per game and is sixth with a .276 hitting percentage. She also collected two AMCC Player of the Week awards on the season.

During her career, she helped lead the Bobcats to a combined 100-38 overall record, three AMCC Tournament titles, three straight undefeated seasons against AMCC opponents, three seasons with 30 or more victories and three straight appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Petrick currently ranks first in FSU history in with 263 service aces, second with 1551 kills and fourth with 1101 digs. She also owns the single-season record with her 88 service aces in 2002.
