Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre To Open 2000-2001 Cultural Events Series at FSU

The dynamic Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre opens the 2000-2001 Cultural Events Season at Frostburg State University with two performances including classical ballet masterpieces and innovative explorations of contemporary dance. As one of the top five ballet companies from outside New York City, PBT promises to enchant and delight audiences with exquisite technique, distinctive artistry and stunning theatricality.

The first performance is slated for Saturday, Sept.16 at 8 p.m. PBT will present a matinee performance on Sunday, Sept.17 at 2 p.m. Both performances will take place in the PAC Drama Theatre.

Drawing from the cultural backgrounds of the five principal dancers, who come from Cuba, China and London, PBT's diverse repertoire reflects an international flavor. In addition, these dancers have performed worldwide as soloists.

Artistic Director Terrence S. Orr, also director of the prestigious Agnes de Mille Dance Theatre Foundation, brings 30 years of accomplishments in the dance world and an international reputation as a guest teacher to PBT. Before joining the company in July 1997, Orr was principal dancer for several ballet companies and artistic director of the American Ballet Theater.

As one critic said, "There is no such thing as an impossible dream when you have a ballet company as talented and high-spirited as the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre."

These performances are supported by a grant from Pittsburgh Arts on tour, a program funded by the Vira I. Heinz Endowment and administered by the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation.
