Rihard Scores Six Goals; Lacrosse Downs St. Vincent 17-12

FROSTBURG, Md. — Junior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) tallied nine points on six goals and three assists, as Frostburg State downed St. Vincent 17-12, Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.

FSU earned it’s first win of the season (1-4) tallying a season high in goals, while St. Vincent (2-1) ended a two-game winning streak.

Along with Rihard, junior Lindsay Lamont (Sykesville, Md./Century) had an impressive game for the Bobcats, recording four goals on five shots and dishing out one assist.

The Lady Bearcats were led by Lauren Eller with five goals, followed by Laura Fedor with three goals and one assist.

FSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just 48 seconds into the game, getting goals from freshman Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) and Lamont. Rihard was credited with both assists.

St. Vincent answered with two goals of their own, tying the game at 25:53. The two teams then exchanged goals when Lamont scored for the Bobcats and Fedor for the Lady Bearcats.

Rihard tallied her first two goals of the afternoon at the 22:11 and 20:10 mark, putting Frostburg State up 5-3. Over the remaining 20 minutes of the first half, FSU would score six of 10 goals, for an 11-7 lead at the break.

The Bobcats lit up the scoreboard early in the second half, when Rihard netted a goal 48 seconds into the period, off and assist from sophomore Meredith Martin (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson).

St. Vincent answered on a Meredith Ruffing goal at 26:42, but off the ensuing draw, Rihard scored two seconds later, extending the FSU lead to 13-8.

The Lady Bearcats faught for a comeback, scoring three unanswered goals from 23:54 to 13:25 in the second half, bringing the score to 14-11.

The Bobcats answered with a three goal run of their own, getting scores from Hildebrand, Lamont, and junior Maria Schrum (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake).

Eller would net a goal for the Lady Bearcats with 2:02 remaining, but then Rihard capped her afternoon with her sixth goal of the game with just 24 seconds left.

Senior Rachel Lewis (Laurel, Md./Wilde Lake) got the start in net for the Bobcats, earning her first win of the season and recording eight saves.

FSU returns to action April 1 at 5:00 pm when it takes on Marymount at Bobcat Stadium.
