Routzhan Improves Qualifying Mark for NCAA Championships

LEWISBURG, PA — Freshman Anna Routzahn (Frederick, Md./Frederick) improved her provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the high jump by leaping 5-6 at the Bucknell University Winter Classic this past Saturday.

Routzahn won her first Division I meet of her short collegiate career, topping athletes from such schools as Syracuse, Bucknell, Howard and Towson.

Her mark is the fourth-best in NCAA Division III this season and is just shy of the FSU indoor record of 5-7 set by Kathy Crotty in 1986.

Routzahn first met the NCAA provisional mark with a jump of 5-4.25 at the WVU Holiday Classic December 6, 2003.

Sophomore Jennifer Waskiewicz (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) was outstanding in the weight throw with a toss of 13.75 meters and qualified for the ECAC Championships to be held March 5-6 at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.

Freshman Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./Robinson) set a personal record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:14.33, while senior Beth Sauder (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) also established a personal mark in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.20.

Junior Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) was impressive in the 800-meters as well with a personal-best time of 2:29.65, while sophomore Chelsea Lewis (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) continued to improve in the 60-meter dash with times of 8.27 and 8.20 seconds.

On the men's side, sophomore Sid Bittinger (Midland, Md./Westmar) and freshman Andrew Parker (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) both set personal bests in the 3,000-meter run. Bittinger finished in 9:32.94, while Parker posted a time of 9:19.38.

Sophomore Ed May (Bryantown, Md./La Plata) placed second in his section of the 3,000-meter run in a solid 9:10.68.

Freshmen Josh Dawson (Elkton, Md./North East) and Scott Yanus (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) both set personal records in the mile run in 4:41.01 and 4:42.02, respectively.

Freshman Tom Ingham (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) finished seventh in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 13.61 meters, and junior Terrell Hayes (Rockville, Md./Wheaton) was seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 12.95 meters.

Junior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) won his section of the 800-meter run in 2:00.32, while freshman Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) was third in 2:01.91.

Freshmen Michael Moxley (Frederick, Md./Linganore) and Michael Trimble (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) each set personal bests in their events. Moxley finished the 400-meters in 56.46, while Trimble ran the 500-meters in 1:15.94.

"Overall, this was a great meet for us and an excellent way to prepare for the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships this coming weekend," said head coach Felix Moreno.

The Mason-Dixon Championships will be held February 21 at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
