Second-Half Surge Powers Lacrosse Past Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, VA — Junior Andrea Duffy (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) recorded three goals and an assist, and Frostburg State outscored host Bridgewater, 7-0, in the second half en route to an 11-4 victory Monday afternoon.

The Bobcats (6-6) rallied from a 3-1 first-half deficit to pull even, 4-4, at halftime before dominating the second period of play.

Freshman Page Macey (Linthicum, Md./North County) scored the first of her two goals on the day just 2:08 into the half, and Duffy found the net just 20 seconds later to spark the outburst.

Freshman Caitlin Howley (Damascus, Md./Damascus) notched her third goal of the game at the 20:54 mark, and fellow freshman Katherine Dashiell (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Prep) scored exactly 7:00 later off a feed from Duffy to give FSU an 8-4 advantage.

Freshman Melissa Tomko (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) kept the Bobcats rolling when she found the net only 19 seconds later.

Duffy completed her hat trick at the 8:15 mark, and Macey closed the scoring with her team-high 41st goal of the season with just :04 remaining.

The teams battled through a tight first half, with FSU opening the scoring on a goal by Howley less than five minutes into action.

Bridgewater (8-8) netted three straight goals in a span of 3:20 to take a 3-1 advantage, but FSU pulled even with goals from Howley and Duffy just :39 apart.

The Eagles edged in front, 4-3, at the 5:46 mark before Bobcat senior defender Adey Ntam (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) forged another deadlock with just 1:27 left in the half.

Sophomore Sarah Shockley (Fallston, Md./Fallston) made seven saves in the win, while Eagle keeper Kristi Martin stopped 19 shots.

Frostburg State returns to action on Thursday when it host Villa Julie at 4:00 p.m.
