Sierra Magazine Names FSU a “Cool School” for Fourth Straight Year
09/14/2015

Frostburg State University has been included for the fourth consecutive year in Sierra magazine’s annual ranking of the nation’s “Cool Schools,” which recognizes significant efforts by U.S. colleges to operate in an ecologically sustainable manner.

FSU was ranked 101 out of 153 higher education institutions across America that are on the 2015 Cool Schools list. The annual ranking is designed as a guide for prospective students, allowing them to compare colleges based on institutional commitments to environmentalism, and it encourages institutions to raise eco-standards on campus. To view the full 2015 Cool Schools list, visit www.sierraclub.org/sierra/2015-5-september-october/cool-schools-2015/full-ranking.

“I am proud to see Frostburg again recognized as one of Sierra magazine’s ‘Cool Schools,’” said FSU Interim President Thomas Bowling. “FSU has long been committed to sustainable, ecologically friendly operations. Our institution was originally founded by coal miners seeking a better future for their descendants. Today, FSU embraces the concept of Living Green, Learning Green to leave a healthier, sustainable world for future generations.”

Sierra magazine’s Cool Schools ranking is based on survey data reported through the Campus Sustainability Data Collector, which is administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The 2015 survey was a collaboration of four organizations: the Sierra Club, AASHE, the Sustainable Endowments Institute and the Princeton Review.
