Softball Drops Pair to Penn State Behrend

ERIE, Pa. - Penn State Behrend held Frostburg State to just five total hits to sweep an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader, Saturday.

PSB (23-12, 13-5) took game one in five innings 10-0 and finished off the sweep with a 3-1 defeat of FSU (14-18, 11-7) in game two.

The Lions jumped out to a large lead early in the second inning of the opener posting seven runs. Penn State Behrend later scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth.

Frostburg State managed its only two hits in the contest in the fifth inning. Freshman Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) had a two-out single followed by a single from junior Lindsay Durkin (Damascus, Md./Damascus). However, Lion starter Julie Koman struckout the final batter to seal the win.

Durkin took the loss on the mound for the Bobcats giving up 10 runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings. Koman earned the victory after fanning nine of the 18 batters faced.

In game two, PSB broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth to outpace the Bobcats to the win.

Potts led off the second with a single and advanced to second on an outfield error. She moved to third on a ground out and scored the only FSU run of the afternoon on a ground out by junior Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack).

PSB’s Lindsay Baughman singled home Rachelle Lawrence to tie the game in the bottom of the second and Kristin Macha doubled home two runs in the fifth for the win.

Potts spread out seven hits and three runs in 6.0 innings while enduring the loss. Sandra Jaussi earned the victory after holding the visitors to three hits and one run in 5.1 innings.

Dabkowski was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Potts was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

The Bobcats return to the field on Tuesday when they host Hood for a doubleheader at 3:00 pm.
