Softball Drops Two Games To Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Frostburg State was only able to gather two hits in two games, as it dropped both contests, 8-0, to Bridgewater College, Wednesday afternoon.

With today’s losses, FSU falls to 3-5 while Bridgewater improves to 12-1 and extends their winning streak to six-straight games.

In game one, Bridgewater freshman Ashely Gills pitched a no-hitter, going five innings, allowing zero runs, and striking out eight. For Frostburg State, senior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on 12 hits.

The Bobcats fell behind early, allowing three runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning.

Bridgewater seniors Katie Reitz and Lindsay Ware led off the inning with singles and sophomore Kaitlyn Bowman doubled, which scored Reitz from second. Junior Laura Barry then singled, scoring Bowman and Ware.

FSU was able to hold off the Eagles until the fourth inning, when they scored two more runs, putting them up 5-0. Reitz and Ware each doubled and crossed the plate for Bridgewater.

BC capped off game one with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, to end the game 8-0.

Game two proved to be more of the same for Bridgewater, as they swept the doubleheader, winning 8-0 once again.

Freshman Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) took the loss for the Bobcats, allowing eight runs on nine hits, while Bridgewater senior Lisa Rhodes grabbed the win, pitching six innings, allowing zero runs, and giving up two hits.

In the third inning, BC put up two runs on a junior Jennifer Hall double and Barry single.

Bridgewater continued their scoring ways, putting up six more runs over the next three innings.

Senior Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack) and junior Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) each went 1-of-2 with singles for Frostburg State.

The Bobcats return on Saturday, March 17 when they play West Virginia State and Shepherd in the Snowbird Tournament.
