Softball Sweeps Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. - Senior Jen Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany) threw a perfect game in the opener and Frostburg State scored 19 runs in the second game, to sweep Mt. Aloysius in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference softball action Wednesday afternoon.

FSU (8-8, 4-0 AMCC) used two three-run innings coupled with Cook’s five-inning no-hit performance to win game one, 9-0 in five innings. In game two, the Bobcats broke through with 19 runs on 18 hits to down Mt. Aloysius (3-7, 0-4 AMCC), 19-4.

Frostburg State got on the board in the first when sophomore Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) scored on a passed ball.

In the third, Griswold doubled home sophomore Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack) and later scored on an error. Classmate Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) also scored on an error in the inning to push the lead to 4-0.

Senior Trish Brown (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) powered the fourth inning with an RBI double that scored Baldwin and Griswold. Brown added the third run of the inning when she crossed the plate on a single by senior Bethany Seyler (Walkersville,Md./Walkersville).

The Bobcats added two more runs in the fifth and MTA was unable to mount any offense in the bottom of the inning as the game ended in five innings.

Senior Jen Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany) earned her seventh win of the season while striking out 10 batters.

Griswold led the squad with three hits, three runs, two stolen bases, one double and one RBI.

In the nightcap, FSU fell behind 4-2 in the third inning before taking the lead in the top of the fourth with five runs. The Bobcats scored four runs in the sixth and eight runs in the seventh to seal the win.

Baldwin tied the game in the fourth with a two-run single that scored Griswold and senior Megan Burner (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett). Brown and freshmen Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) and Lydia Ratliff (Brandywine, Md./Grace Brethern) each had an RBI in the inning to extend the lead to 7-4.

The sixth inning was highlighted by a Ratliff two-run single as the FSU advantage was pushed to 11-4. In the seventh, eight different Bobcats scored on seven hits and four MTA errors as the game came to a close.

Cook pitched 5.0 innings in relief allowing just one run on two hits while striking out seven.

At the plate, Brown was 5-for-5 with three runs, three RBIs and a double.

FSU returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Hilbert for a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
