Softball Sweeps Pitt-Greensburg

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Frostburg State softball team got back on the winning track with a sweep of Pitt-Greensburg, Friday, 7-1 and 6-2.

Junior Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack) led FSU (14-16, 11-5) with three RBIs on the afternoon. She and freshman Amber Macintosh (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) led the team with three hits each.

FSU posted six runs in the first inning of the opener and one run in the second. That was all the run support senior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) would need as she earned her sixth win of the season. She pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits while striking out five.

Dabkowski accented the first inning with a pair of RBIs while senior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder), sophomore Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) and freshman Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) each drove in one. Junior Lindsay Seal (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore (Frederick CC)) scored the final run for Frostburg State in the second inning when she crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

UPG (10-18, 5-13) scored its lone run in the third on a Bobcat error.

In the second contest, FSU scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take another early lead. Potts got things going with an RBI single that plated Macintosh. Two batters later, Dabkowski singled home junior Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) for the second run of the inning. The final two runs were scored when Potts and Seal scored on an error.

FSU added to its lead with a pair of runs in the fourth for a 6-1 advantage. With two outs, Wagner scored on an error and Filipowicz scored on a passed ball.

Freshman Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) (8-6) pitched all 7.0 innings giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits while fanning three.

Macintosh was 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead Frostburg State offensively.

The Bobcats return to the field tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Penn State Behrend for their AMCC regular season finale at 1:00 pm.
