Softball vs. La Roche in First Round of AMCC Tournament

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament gets under way Saturday when Frostburg State hosts La Roche for a best-of-three series at Bobcat Field starting at 10:00 am.

FSU (19-15, 13-5 AMCC) enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed while LAR (20-13, 8-10 AMCC) is the No. 5 seed. Frostburg State swept their regular-season doubleheader against La Roche earlier this week. The Bobcats captured game one, 3-0, and outpaced the Redhawks in game two, 5-1.

No. 3 seeded Lake Erie (23-12, 14-4 AMCC) will host No. 6 seeded Medaille (17-23, 7-11 AMCC) in the other first round matchup.

First-round winners will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament at host Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pa. The winner of the FSU/LAR series will take on No. 1 seeded PSB (31-7, 16-2 AMCC) on Friday, May 5 at 12:15 pm. The winner of the MED/LEC series will move on to face No. 2 seeded Pitt-Bradford (31-5, 16-2 AMCC) on Friday, May 5 at 2:45 pm.

Sophomore Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) leads the Bobcats with a .353 batting average, 27 runs scored and a .432 on-base percentage.

Senior Bethany Seyler (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) is batting .343 with 36 hits, 12 doubles, three homeruns and a team-high 21 RBIs.

Junior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) has put together a solid year from her leadoff spot, hitting .342 with a team-high 38 hits. She also leads the squad with seven stolen bases.

Senior Jen Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany) is having a record-breaking season on the mound for Frostburg State. She is 19-5 overall, 13-2 against AMCC opponents, with a 2.28 ERA. She set the single-season strikeout record with 195, bettering the previous record, which she held after last spring, by 108. She has also set the single-season mark for wins and appearances (28).
