Starke Resigns as Sports Information Director

FROSTBURG, Md. — Chris Starke announced Thursday his resignation as the sports information director at Frostburg State University to accept a similar position at Hood College in Frederick, Md.

His final day at FSU will be October 28, and he will begin his new duties at Hood on Monday, October 31.

"I’ve truly had a great time at Frostburg State, but this move gives me the chance to be with my fiancee while remaining in the sports information field at a wonderful institution," said Starke.

"I sincerely thank FSU for giving me my first full-time opportunity and Athletic Director Ralph Brewer for his gracious support during this transition. FSU has a great group of coaches as well as very talented and dedicated student-athletes, and I’ll miss them all very much."

Starke joined FSU as its sports information director in July 2000 after serving a one-year internship at Division I University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Penn, he spent four years as an assistant at Division II Shepherd (W.Va.), from where he earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1996.

During his time at Frostburg State, Starke has directed the media relations efforts for the University’s 21-sport athletic department. The quality and quantity of media guides have increased, a new web site has been developed and records and archives for many of the sports have been improved.

"We’ve been able to do a lot of great things here simply because of the outstanding assistants with whom I’ve had the good fortune to work," said Starke.

"Wes Landrum has been with me from day one and has been vital to our accomplishments, and the four graduate assistants since have done incredible jobs in very demanding positions. I owe them all a great deal. I also need to thank those in other departments on campus who have been a tremendous help to me and my staff over the last five years."

Hood competes at the Division III level and recently made the transition from an all-women’s institution to co-ed status, increased from seven to 17 sports (10 for women and seven for men) and joined the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

"This is an exciting time to be joining Hood," said Starke. "It has a very supportive administration with a strong vision for its athletic department as well as outstanding coaches and student-athletes. I’m looking forward to being part of the bright future of Blazer athletics."
