Swimming & Diving Drops Contest to Washington & Jefferson

FROSTBURG, MD - The Frostburg State men's and women's swimming and diving teams were bested by visiting Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon. The women lost 134-93, while the men were edged by a close 120.50-113.50 decision.

In men's action, the squad was led by sophomore Chris Williams (Baltimore City College/Baltimore City, Md.). Williams captured first place in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.95 and won 100-meter freestyle in 56.03.

Senior Jay Mayden (Arlington Baptist/Baltimore, Md.) won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:09.84 and placed second in the 200-meter freestyle and the 200-meter individual medley.

Freshman Kyle Meyer (Centreville/Clifton, Md.) swept both the one and three-meter diving events. He captured the one-meter with a score of 207.15 and the three-meter with a score of 155.90.

The team of Chris Williams, seniors Ryan Kentrus (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.) and Brian Flynn (Shepaug Valley/Bridgewater, Conn.) and freshman Kevin Hoffman (South River/Crofton, Md.) captured first place in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.94.

Flynn placed second in both the 50 and 100-meter freestyle events.

On the women's side, freshman Amy Contino (Cumberland Regional/Bridgeton, N.J.) won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:50.56.

Sophomore Kristin Moats (Loudoun County/Leesburg, Va.) captured the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:03.50, while junior Audrey Shipe (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) won the three-meter diving with a score of 179.70.

Senior Kerri Wolfensberger (N. Hagerstown/Hagerstown, Md.) won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:33.09, while the team of sophomore Heather Hamor (Lackey/Nanjemoy, Md.), Contino, freshman Megan Falls (Kingsway Regional/Swesboro, N.J.) and junior Melody Hanna (Beall/Frostburg, Md.) combined to win the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.60.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday, November 15th when they host West Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
