Swimming & Diving Split at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, VA - The Frostburg State men's and women's swimming and diving teams had split results Saturday at Randolph-Macon. The men picked up their third win of the season, 133.5-80.5, while the women lost 87-149.

Leading the men's squad was senior Jay Mayden (Arlington Baptist/Baltimore, Md.), sophomore Chris Williams (Baltimore City College/Baltimore City, Md.) and freshman Ross Herman (Winston Churchill/N. Potomac, Md.).

Mayden won the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:03.55 and the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:27.42. Williams captured the 50-freestyle (22.72) and the 100 freestyle (50.58), while Herman took first place in both the 200-backstroke (2:10.30) and the 200-freestyle (1:56.28).

Also winning events were senior Ben Marrapodi (C.Milton Wright/Forest Hill, Md.) and sophomore C.C. Williams (Fort Mill/Fort Mill, S.C.). Marrapodi won the 100-backstroke (1:02.09) and C.C. Williams won the 500-freestyle (5:34.65).

Combining to win the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:54.47 were seniors Jeff Cameron (Mt. St. Joseph/Columbia, Md.) and Ryan Kentrus (Patuxent/Lusby, Md.), sophomore J.D. Ottey (Thomas Johnson/Frederick, Md.) and freshman Brandon Thornton (Oakland Mills/Columbia, Md.).

Marrapodi placed second in the 200-backstroke (2:13.47), while Ottey placed second in the 100-breaststroke (1:10.64).

Also grabbing second-place finishes were seniors Brian Flynn (Shepaug Valley/Bridgewater, Conn.) and Greg Barnhart (Damascus/Gaithersburg, Md.).

Flynn with a time of 51.72 in the 100-freestyle and Barnhart in the 500-freestyle (5:43.49) and 1000-freestyle (11:45.50).

Winning for the women was sophomore Kristin Moats (Loudoun County/Leesburg, Va.). Moats captured the 200-individual medley with a time of (2:22.50). Moats also placed second in the 100-freestyle (57.14) and 200-freestyle (2:05.21).

Also placing second were juniors Erin Young (Glasgow/Newark, Del.), Melody Hanna (Beall/Frostburg, Md.), Amy Contino (Cumberland Regional/Bridgeton, N.J.), Lauren Thomas (Oxon Hill/Oxon Hill, Md.) and sophomore Heather Hamor (Lackey/Nanjemoy, Md.).

Young in the 100-breastroke (1:24.64) and 200-breaststroke (2:46.34), Hanna in the 100-butterfly (1:07.42) and 200-butterfly (2:33.39), Contino in the 1000-free (12:23.52), Thomas in the 100-backstroke (1:13.28) and Hamor in the 50-freestyle (26.15).

The Bobcats return to action December 5th when they visit Grove City to compete in the Longnecker Invitational beginning at 6:00 p.m.
