Swimming & Diving Splits With Penn State Behrend

ERIE, PA — The Frostburg State swimming and diving teams split with host Penn State Behrend Saturday afternoon at the Junker Center. The Bobcat men posted their fifth win in a row, 148-76, while the FSU women were edged, 106-94.

The Bobcats established six Junker Center Pool records and one FSU varsity mark.

On the men's side, the Bobcats (7-3) captured 11 events in the easy victory.

Senior Kelly Ryan (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel), senior Jay Garner (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard), sophomore Kevin Nolan (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and sophomore Jay Mayden (Baltimore, Md./Arlington Baptist) teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in a pool-record 1:41.52.

Ryan later won both the 50-yard freestyle (22.18) and the 100-yard backstroke (54.36). He set pool records in both events, and his time in the 100-yard backstroke bettered his own former school mark of 54.53 which he set at the Grove City Invitational in December.

Garner also picked up a pair of victories in individual events, setting pool records in the process. He won the 200-yard individual medley in 22.18 and later captured the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.55.

Mayden took home the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.83), while Nolan claimed the 100-yard butterfly (55.91).

Sophomore Brian Flynn (Bridgewater, Conn./Shepaug Valley) won the 100-yard freestyle in 52.00 before teaming with freshman Matt Marrapodi (Forest Hills, Md./C. Milton Wright), sophomore Ben Marrapodi (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) and sophomore Ryan Kentrus (St. Leonard, Md./Patuxent) to capture the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Sophomore Andrew Mlynarski (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) won both rounds of the 1-meter diving, posting 128.15 and 170.80 points, respectively.

The Bobcat women (3-7) captured five events on the afternoon.

Junior Siona Walsh (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy), senior Laura Jacquette (Tolchester, Md./Kent County), senior Alex Morrison (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) and junior Jessie Bley (Fort Washington, Md./Gwynn Park) teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in 2:07.78.

Walsh later claimed the 50-yard freestyle (27.51), while Morrison was a winner in the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.32).

Senior Cindy Reese (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished first in both rounds of the 1-meter diving, scoring 113.70 before setting a pool record with 185.90 points.
