Swimming & Diving Splits with Randolph Macon- Reese Sets New FSU Diving Record

FROSTBURG, MD — The Frostburg State men's swimming and diving team defeated Randolph-Macon 160-73, while the women lost 162-128. Senior Cindy Reese set a new FSU record in the 1-meter dive.

In men's competition, junior John Mayden (Arlington Baptist/Baltimore, Md.) captured two events. First, in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:11.51 and then the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:36.52.

Also winning two events was junior Jeff Cameron (Mt. Saint Joseph/Columbia, Md.). He captured the 100-meter backstroke in 1:11.03 and the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:39.08.

Freshman Jay Ferrari (Riverhill/Columbia, Md.)and Chris Williams (Baltimore City College/Baltimore, Md.) also won two events. Ferrari's first win came in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:20.44 and then in the 200-meter freestyle relay, sharing the victory with juniors Brian Flynn (Shepaug Valley/Bridgewater, Conn.) and Greg Barnhart (Damascus/Damascus, Md.) and senior Adrian Kessler. The four scored a finals time of 2:08.22.

Williams won his first event in the 50-meter freestyle in 24.96 and then captured the 100-meter freestyle in 56.17.

Junior Ryan Kentrus (Patuxent, Lusby, Md.) won the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:01.33 and sophomore Greg Smith (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.) captured the 400-meter freestyle in 5:00.74. Freshman Sean Leaman (Bethesda-Chevy Chase/Bethesda, Md.) took the 800-meter freestyle in 9:49.75.

On the women's side, the performance of the day came from senior Cindy Reese (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) when she set a new FSU record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 246.75. The previous record was held by Julie Thornton (229.00) set in January, 1994. Reese also won the 3-meter dive (205.90). Reese now has a provisional qualifying standard for the Division III Championships.

Freshman Heather Hamor (Lackey/Nanjemoy, Md.) won the 800-meter freestyle in 10:06.58 and Kristen Moats (Loudoun County/Leesburg, Va.) captured the 200-meter individual medley (2:40.65).

The Bobcats, now 2-3(men) and 1-4(women), return to action when they compete at the Grove City Longnecker Invitational on December 6th at 1:00 pm.
