Swimming & Diving Teams Sweep Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, DC — The Frostburg State swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet from host Gallaudet in convincing style Saturday afternoon. The Bobcat men posted a 112-23 win to even their record at 3-3 on the season, while the FSU women turned in a 102-63 victory to improve to 2-4.

On the men's side, freshman C.C. Williams (Fort Mill, S.C./Fort Mill) paced the Bobcats with wins in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles in 1:58.12 and 5:14.93, respectively.

Fellow freshman Jay Ferrari (Columbia, Md./Riverhill) picked up a win in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.10 seconds, while junior John Mayden (Baltimore, Md./Arlington Baptist) captured the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.93.

Sophomore Patrick Serrano (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:06.43, freshman Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) claimed the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.03 and junior Ryan Kentrus (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) added a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:22.23.

Junior Jeff Cameron (Columbia, Md./Mt. St. Joseph), Ferrari, Mayden and Serrano teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:53.08.

Seniors Siona Walsh (Twin Falls, Idaho/Bellows Free Academy) and Jessie Bley (Ft. Washington, Md./Gwynne Park) and sophomores Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and Ashley Hedges (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) led the Bobcat women to victory.

Walsh claimed the 50-yard freestyle (28.06), Bly won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.51), Hanna captured the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.09) and Hedges took home the 100-yard freestyle (1:10.04). The foursome also teamed to win the 200-yard medley relay (2:12.01).

Freshman Kristin Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:21.98 before joining freshman Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey), freshman Melissa Linard (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and sophomore Samantha Torrey (Rockville, Md./Rockville) to capture the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:57.76.

The Bobcats return to action on January 17 at Marymount beginning at 1:00 p.m.
