Swimming & Diving Teams Sweep Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, DC — The Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams picked up victories against Gallaudet Sunday afternoon. The Bobcat men posted a 97-28 win to improve to 1-4 on the season, while the women moved to 2-3 with a 110-89 win.

On the men’s side, juniors Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) and Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) each won two individual events to lead the way.

Williams captured the 50- (22.20) and 100-yard (51.76) freestyles, while Leaman won the 1,000-yard freestyle (2:00.78) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.25).

Junior Scott Shewbrooks (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.34), and classmate Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) claimed the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.78).

The two also teamed with sophomore Kyle Meyer (Clifton, Va./Centreville) and freshman John Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) to capture the 200-yard medley relay (1:57.45).

On the women’s side, junior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) and junior Kristin Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) each took home a pair of individual events and were also members of the winning 400-yard medley relay team.

Hamor captured the 50- (26.87) and 100-yard (59.87) freestyles, while Moats won the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.09) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.27). The duo also joined freshman Julie Groetzinger (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh) and senior Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) in winning the 400-yard medley relay (4:30.80).

Sophomore Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) took home the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.19) and later teamed with sophomore Amy Contino (Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) and freshmen Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:17.99)

Dunningan claimed FSU’s eighth win of the day in the 400-yard individual medley (5:16.59).

The Bobcats return to action December 3 and 4 at the Grove City Longnecker Invitational.
