Swimming Downs St. Vincent

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming teams swept St. Vincent Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Natatorium. The men’s team won 104-90 while the women battled to a close 78-72 victory.

Seniors Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College), Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Brendan Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) paced the Bobcat men to their fourth-straight win.

Williams won the 50 (24.75) and 100-meter freestyles (55.88) while Leaman captured the 400 (4:36.55) and 1,500-meter freestyle (17:57.08) titles. Craig turned in a solid performance, winning the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.84) and taking second in the 400-meter freestyle (4:39.42).

Freshman Pat Hutchinson (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) captured second place in both the 100-meter breaststroke (1:17.20) and 200-meter freestyle (2:11.84).

On the women’s side, senior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) and sophomores Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Megan Deming (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) captured victories to guide the women to their second win in the last three meets.

Hamor won the 50-meter freestyle (29.32), Dunnigan took home the 1,500-meter freestyle (19:13.16) title and Deming won the 100-meter freestyle (1:26.10).

The women also captured four runner-up finishes. Junior Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) was second in the 200-meter freestyle (2:29.01), sophomore Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) was runner-up in the 1,500-meter freestyle (20:45.42), while freshmen Michelle Nash (Columbia, Md./Hammond) and Mindy Yost (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) were second in the 200-meter IM (2:48.68) and 100-meter backstroke (1:21.49), respectively.

The 200-meter medley relay team of Falls, Hurkett and sophomores Stephanie Deming (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) and Amanda Delaney (Frostburg, Md./Beall) was victorious with a time of 2:42.57.

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday, February 4 when it travels to West Virginia Wesleyan for a meet at 2:00 pm.
