Swimming Drops to Rival Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD — Both the Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lost to Salisbury Saturday. The Bobcat men were defeated 128-73, while the Bobcat women fell 149-59.

For the second straight meet, junior Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) won a pair of events when he captured victories in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.11 and the 100-yard freestyle in 54.02.

Junior Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) won the 400-yard freestyle in 4:44.56 and junior Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) captured a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle in 4:46.38. Earlier in the meet, Leaman won the 800-yard freestyle in 9:42.50.

With a time of 2:25.86, freshman Allen Miller (Seabrook, Md./DuVal) was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke. In the 100-yard backstroke junior Scott Shewbrooks (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) finished in second place with a time of 1:09.57.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Shewbrooks, freshman Tommy Spencer (Frostburg, Md./Beall), freshman John Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara) and sophomore Kyle Meyer (Clifton, Va./Centreville) captured a second-place finish in 2:06.64.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Williams, Spencer, senior Billy Spencer (Frostburg, Md./Thomas Johnson) and sophomore Tom Sandor (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) recorded a second place finish in 1:48.97.

On the women’s side, freshman Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) won the 800-yard freestyle in 10:12.45 and finished first in the 400-yard freestyle in 4:57.87.

In the 50-yard freestyle, senior Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) captured the victory with a time of 29.66.

Junior Kristin Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) finished second in two events, the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly. She finished with a time of 2:39.37 in the 200 while recording a 1:12.95 in the 100.

Junior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) finished in second-place with a time of 1:06.69 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Freshman Julie Groetzinger (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh), junior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey), junior Kristin Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) and senior Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) teamed to place second in the 200-yard medley relay in 2:17.95.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, November 19 at Grove City beginning at 6:00 pm.
