Swimming Loses to Grove City

GROVE CITY, PA — Both the Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lost to Grove City Friday evening. The Bobcat men were defeated 136-88, while the Bobcat women fell 141-80.

Junior Steve Ramsey (Olney, Md./Magruder) captured first place in the three-meter dive competition with a score of 126.30.

Taking home a pair of second place finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freetsyles was junior Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) . He swam the 50-yard freestyle in 21.96 and the 100-yard in 48.51.

The trio of junior Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township), sophomore Will Cross (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and junior Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) finished one, two, three in the 500-yard freestyle. Craig recorded a time of 5:25.44 followed by Cross with a 6:04.27 and Leaman with a 6:22.65.

The second trio of freshman John Strong (Upper Marlboro, Md./Bishop McNamara), junior J.D. Ottey (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) and freshman Tommy Spencer (Frostburg, Md./Beall) also took the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke. Strong finished first with a time of 1:08.72, Ottey came in second with 1:10.08 and Spencer had a time of 1:14.77.

On the women’s side, freshmen Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) captured first and second place in the 1000-yard freesyle. Dunnigan had a time of 11:52.12 while Hurket had a time of 12:50.09.

Junior Kristin Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) captured first place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:20.88. She also won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.05.

Senior Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) grabbed two second place finishes on the evening in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. She had a time of 27.01 in the 50 and 1:07.18 in the 100.

A pair of freshmen Brittany Blystone (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Julie Groetzinger (LaVale, Md./Bishop Walsh) recorded second place finishes for the Bobcats. Blystone was second in the one-meter dive competition with a 177.25 and Groetzinger’s finsihed the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.45.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, November 21 at Gallaudet at 1:00 pm.
