Tennis Knocks Off Penn State Altoona In AMCC Action

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men’s tennis team downed Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent, Penn State Altoona, 6-3, Monday afternoon at the Cordts Tennis Complex.

In singles action, the Bobcats went 5-1 earning wins from seniors Andy Chisholm (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) and Chris Schoenbauer (Riva, Md./South River), juniors Ryan Rice (Hampton, Va./Shape American) and Matt Chisholm (La Plata, Md./La Plata), and sophomore Greg Shedd (Middletown, Md./Middletown).

Shedd defeated Will Wray in No. 1 singles 7-6, 6-1, while A. Chisholm downed Brian Bascome in No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-4. It took three games for M. Chisholm to take care of Pat Cooper 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in No. 3 singles. Rice and Schoenbauer won their singles mathces, winning 7-6, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-7, 6-2, respectivley.

PSA’s Jared Rute knocked off senior Brad Yoder (Hyndman, Pa./Christian Liberty Academy) in No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-7, 4-6.

In doubles action, the Bobcat’s lone victory came from the tandom of Shedd and M. Chisholm. The two defeated Wray and Bascome in No. 1 doubles, 8-0.

FSU travels to W. Va. Wesleyan on March 27 at 4:00 pm.
