Track & Field Competes In The Maryland Terrapin Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Frostburg State track and field teams competed in the Maryland Terrapin Invitational, which consisted of 27 teams competing from all three NCAA Divisions, as well as highly touted JUCO schools, Saturday afternoon.

On the men’s side, nine athletes represented FSU, while junior Jessica Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and sophomore Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) participated for the women.

Rohrs was second in the 100-meter hurdle, crossing the finish line in 14.52 seconds. Her time is an NCAA National Championships provisional qualifying time and it’s just 0.12 seconds off of the NCAA Championships automatic qualifying time of 14.40 seconds.

Clingan earned fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 14.96 seconds. She also earned an NCAA National Championships provisional qualifying time for this event and in the 400-meter hurdles, she finished 16th in 1:07.26. This finish was good enough for an ECAC Championships qualifier.

For the men, sophomore Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) finished eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.41, just missing the ECAC Championships standard of 1:56.24.

Sophomore Michael Siemann (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh ) finished 15th in the long jump (6.00 meters/19 ft 8.25 in), while senior Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) competed in the 5000-meter run, finishing in 16th place with a time of 15:46.46.

Sophomore Steve Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) captured 27th in the 400-meter hurdles and junior David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) earned 30th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.31 seconds.

Freshman Cory Smith (Piedmont, W.Va./Keyser) broke his personal best record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:17.11 and finishing 35th overall.

Siemann, Flanagan, sophomore Tade Turton (Pittsville, Md./Riverside), and Leiter teamed to finish 13th in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:30.92.

Frostburg State returns to action April 7, when they compete at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
