Track & Field Gives Solid Performance at Mason-Dixon Invitational

GETTYSBURG, PA – Frostburg State Track & Field had solid performances at the Mason-Dixon Invitational held at Gettysburg College last weekend where the men placed second and the women placed fourth. On the women’s side, sophomores Jennifer Waskiewicz (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.) and Laura Knight (Bel Air/Bel Air, Md.) each won their first collegiate meet. For the men, junior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie/Glen Burnie, Md.) won two events and sophomore Sid Bittinger (Westmar/Midland, Md.) captured one.

In men’s action, Bonn finished first in both the 800 and 1500-meter run. In the 800, Bonn won with a time of 2:00.08 and also captured the 1500 with a time of 4:00.42.

Bittinger had a big day also, winning the steeplechase and setting a personal record with a time of 10:00.64.

Also performing well were freshmen Tom Ingham (Francis Scott Key/Westminster, Md.), James Pruitt (Stafford/Stafford, Va.) and Brandon Bowersox (Vernon Township/Baltomore, Md.).

Ingham took second place in the shot put with a distance of 44’2” and Pruitt tossed the shot put 38’9.5”.

Also adding personal records were freshman Josh Dawson (North East/Elkton, Md.) in the 800 and 1500-meter events. In the 800, Dawson set his PR with a time of 2:05.56, while adding a PR in the 1500 with a time of 4:14.47.

In the 10,000-meter run, freshman Andrew Parker (Springbrook/Silver Spring, Md.), junior Jonathan Masse (Fort Hill/Cumberland, Md.) and senior Kevin Allgeier (C. Milton Wright/Bel Air, Md.) each set personal records. Parker set a PR with a time of 35:19.24, Masse set his PR with a time of 35:25.24 and Allgeier with a time of 35:39.24.

Bowersox heaved the javelin an impressive 160’6”.

For the women, Waskiewicz earned her first collegiate win when she won the hammer throw with a distance of 124’4”, while Knight won her first collegiate meet in the pole vault with a height of 9’6”.

Junior Lynnea Finch (Franklin/Owings Mills, Md.) was strong in both the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run. In the 400, Finch placed second with a time of 1:02.16 and in the 800 she took second with a time of 2:30.37.

Also performing well was freshman Sheila Kurtz (Boonsboro/Thurmont, Md.). Kurtz had a personal record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:34.05

The Bobcats return to action April 24 when they travel to Indiana, Pa. to compete in the IUP Open.
