Track & Field Men Sixth, Women 10th at Frank Colden Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Frostburg State track and field men’s team captured sixth and the women placed 10th at the Frank Colden Invitational, Saturday.

The meet was held on the campus of Ursinus and it marks the third time this season that the Bobcats have competed in Collegeville, Pa.

Sophomore Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) helped lead the men’s squad with a pair of runner-up finishes. He was second in the one-mile run (4:29.20) and second in the 800-meter run (2:01.48).

Junior David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) got things started in the first event for the men with a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash in 7.52. He later won the 400-meter dash title with a time of 51.62.

In the field events, freshman Michael O’Brien (Baltimore, Md./Arundel) was second in the high jump (six feet, two inches).

The 4x400-meter relay team of Cheeks, Leiter, junior Nicholas Schiefelbein (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) and sophomore Tade Turton (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) took sixth in 3:34.62.

Turton also added a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash (6.75).

Junior Jessica Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) led the women with a runner-up finish in the 55-meter hurdles (8.55). She also was eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.95).

Sophomore Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) competed in just one individual event, the 400-meter dash, and she qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship meet and recorded third in 1:00.19.

In the one-mile run, junior Kara Wastler (Sharpsburg, Md./Boonsboro) was 12th (5:40.59) and freshman Gwen Massey (Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) was 26th (5:52.41.

The tandem also ran in the 800-meter run; Wastler finished 13th (2:33.99) and Massey was 15th (2:37.75).

Sophomore Jennifer Patton (Barton, Md./Westmar) was 13th in the 3,000-meter run in a personal best 11:17.26.

Clingan, Wastler, Massey and Rohrs teamed in the 4x400-meter relay for a seventh-place finish in 4:30.39.

Frostburg State returns to action on February 10 at the Bucknell Winter Classic.
