Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $200,000 in Grants and Funding for Frostburg State University’s Nursing Skills Lab
03/03/2017

Today U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) announced new federal funding for the Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Center at Frostburg State University. The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will provide $100,000 for the project and that will be matched by local sources, bringing the total funding to $200,000.

“This grant is a win-win for Maryland families. The men and women looking to looking to enter the nursing field will have a strong training program at Frostburg State University, and people in our communities will have better health care providers. We will keep fighting to invest in education and job training programs across the state,” said Senator Van Hollen.

“While this federal funding will be delivered to Frostburg State University, its benefits will reach all of Maryland as it helps train and prepare a new generation of nursing staff for our state’s medical community,” said Senator Cardin. “Job training leads to job growth, and I’m committed to making sure the federal government continues to make smart investments in training programs like this one.”

This grant will help upgrade and enhance the nursing skills lab and simulation center. The project will purchase and install technologically advanced equipment and materials and perform minor renovations to the classroom space. Included among the equipment purchases are high fidelity adult and pediatric mannequins as well as examination tables and other furniture.

ARC is an economic development agency of the federal government and 13 state governments focusing on 420 counties across the Appalachian region. Its mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia and help the region achieve socioeconomic parity with the nation.
