Volleyball Defeats Rival Pitt -Bradford 3-0 to Earn Conference Bragging Rights

Frostburg, Md — Frostburg State (15-6), defeated Pitt-Bradford Saturday night to become the only undefeated team in the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference. By defeating the Panthers in three straight games, the Bobcats bolstered their conference record to 5-0.

In the first game, the Bobcats were in control the majority of the time and coasted to a 30-19 win.

In the second game, the Panthers were more intense and traded blows with FSU, but came up short 30-25.

In the third game, the scene was much more competitive as the Panthers were dead-even in scoring with the Bobcats. However, when the scoreboard reached 27, the Bobcats went on a tear and sealed the victory 30-27.

Junior Kelli Bumgarner (Calvert/Chesepeake Beach, Md.) had 11 kills and sophomore Lauren Petrick ( North Caroline/Denton, Md.) had eight kills. Sophomore Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.) had eight digs and 32 assists.

Head Coach Jeff Billington said he was relieved that the weekend was finally over.

"I have to give the girls a lot of credit," said Billington. "They played six matches in three days. I'm proud of them for staying mentally tough and defeating a conference team that came into the match 4-0."

Frostburg State returns to action on Monday, October 7th at 7:00 p.m. versus conference opponent La Roche.
