Volleyball Drops Two on Second Day of Juniata ASICS Invitational

HUNTINGDON, PA - Frostburg State concluded action at the Juniata ASICS Invitational with losses to Wittenberg (3-0) and Gettysburg (3-1) Saturday.

The Bobcats (1-3) opened the day against Wittenberg, ranked No. 8 in the AVCA Division III Preseason Coaches Poll. The Tigers, who upset No. 3 Juniata 3-2 Friday evening, posted 30-16, 30-21 and 30-25 victories.

Senior Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) led FSU with 12 kills, while senior Sam Seyfferth (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) added 14 digs.

Sophomore Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) recorded 27 assists and nine digs.

FSU then wrapped up its weekend with a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Gettysburg. The Bullets opened with a narrow 32-30 victory before following with a 30-25 win.

The Bobcats posted a 30-24 victory in game three but came up short in a 31-29 battle in the fourth game.

Petrick led FSU with a career-high 20 kills, while senior Jodi Carpenter (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) finished with 14 kills. Sophomore Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) added 11.

Hernandez registered a career-high 49 assists, while Seyfferth added 28 digs.

The Bobcats return to action Wednesday, September 8 when they host Division II Pitt-Johnstown at 7:00 pm.
